Horse rugs for every season and every horse

At Caribu, we believe every horse deserves the right protection, no matter the season. Our horse rugs are crafted with practical features, durable materials and smart designs to meet the demands of Australian conditions. From frosty winter mornings to scorching summer afternoons and rainy nights, our collection is built to last — combining comfort, toughness and fit to keep your horse protected year-round.

Our range covers everything from heavyweight winter rugs for maximum warmth to breathable summer rugs that promote airflow and shield against the sun. You'll also find for indoor comfort, waterproof rainsheets for wet and rainy days, and tough ripstop rugs built to handle rough paddock conditions. Many of our designs feature quick-release chest straps, adjustable surcingles, reflective bindings and secure leg straps — offering a snug fit without restricting your horse’s movement. With options like standard neck rugs, combo rugs, hooded styles and detachable hoods, it’s easy to tailor the protection to suit your horse and the season.

For horses who need a specialist fit, we offer XL gusset rugs for broader horses needing extra room through the chest and shoulders. If you're looking for great value, our Kingsley rugs offer everyday comfort and durability at budget-friendly prices. With Afterpay and Zip Pay available, you can buy now and pay later — keeping your horse comfortable has never been easier.

How do I measure my horse and choose the right size rug?

Measure from the centre of your horse’s chest to the point of the rump, keeping the tape straight along the side. For full fitting instructions and tips, follow our Rug Sizes & Fitting Guides.

What denier fabric should I choose for a horse rug?

Higher denier fabrics (like 1200D or 1680D) are tougher and better for paddock use, while lighter deniers (like 600D) are suitable for more sheltered horses or light use.

How do I care for my horse rug?

Brush off dirt and hair regularly, air out rugs to prevent mould, and wash with mild soap when needed. Always follow the care instructions for best longevity.

How do I know if my horse is too hot under a rug?

Feel behind the rug near the shoulders or wither. If it’s sweaty or very warm to the touch, your horse may be overheating and a lighter rug or no rug might be needed. Learn the signs that your horse is too hot or too cold by reading our blog.

What are the differences between combo rugs, detachable neck rugs and hooded rugs?

  • Combo rugs are a one-piece design that permanently covers both the body and neck, offering continuous protection against rain, wind and insects. They’re a great choice if you want a simple, secure rug that won’t shift or gap around the neck area.
  • Detach-a-neck rugs give you more flexibility — you can add or remove the neck section depending on the weather. This is especially useful in changeable conditions or when you want lighter coverage on warmer days. Detach-a-neck also make it easier to clean or replace just the neck piece if needed.
  • Hooded rugs are a little different — they include a separate hood that fits over your horse’s head, usually fastening around the jaw or cheeks. Hooded rugs provide full head and neck protection, helping to shield sensitive areas like the ears, mane and forelock from flies, sun and rain.

Each style offers excellent protection when fitted properly. The right choice depends on your horse’s needs, the weather conditions and how much flexibility you want with your rug setup.
